Corvus Energy

Supplier Member of the Month allows one CFA Supplier member per month to highlight their business.

Corvus Energy is the leading supplier of zero-emission solutions for the ocean space.

More than 50% of the world’s hybrid and all-electric maritime vessels are equipped with a Corvus system. With the largest installed base of marine energy storage systems worldwide and over 9 million system operating hours, Corvus systems have helped to save 3.9 billion liters of diesel fuel and 9.3 billion kilograms of CO2 emissions.

Hybrid/electric and all-electric ferries

Over the past decade Corvus has provided battery energy storage systems for 150 all-electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid passenger, Ro-Pax, Ro-Ro, and high-speed ferries around the world, amassing extensive experience and knowhow in the complex technology and lifecycle decision-making challenges facing ferry operators as they embark on the decarbonization of their fleets.

Recently, Corvus was selected to supply the battery system for the world`s largest 100% electric lightweight Ro-Pax ferry, an Incat shipyard project for Buquebus. Requiring more than 40 MWh of energy storage, it will be the largest battery system installed onboard a ship– four times as big as the current largest installation.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution for marine battery energy storage.

Corvus Energy offers a range of marine energy storage systems to provide the right solution for every application, including:

  • The award-winning Corvus Orca ESS, the most installed marine ESS worldwide, offers high energy density and high-power delivery for versatility in a wide range of applications.
  • Corvus Blue Whale ESS designed for large vessels and large power demands is scalable to 50+ MWh sizes for long duration zero-emission voyages.
  • The energy dense Corvus Dolphin Energy NxtGen ESS is ideal for applications where lightweight is essential, including high-speed ferry, workboat and crew transfer vessels.

Extending the range of zero-emission operations with batteries, fuel cells and green fuels

Using battery energy storage and fuel cell systems together with green fuels, vessels can maintain zero-emission operations for longer without refueling or recharging. Corvus developed the Corvus Pelican Fuel Cell System, featuring world-leading fuel cell technology from Toyota.

Proud to serve the Canadian Ferry Market

Proudly Canadian, with manufacturing and R&D based in Vancouver, Corvus Energy is pleased to support the fleet electrification needs of Canadian ferry operators. Seaspan Ferries, BC Ferries and BC Inland Ferries combined operate over 12 Ro-Ro or Ro-Pax ferries that use a Corvus battery system or have projects underway. In Toronto, the Marilyn Bell passenger ferry to Billly Bishop airport operates with zero-emissions using a Corvus battery. An example of battery technology advancement, a recent Seaspan Ferries system upgrade quadrupled energy storage capacity onboard the Seaspan Reliant— the first vessel to deploy Corvus Energy’s multimegawatt-hour Blue Whale ESS.

Corvus Energy is an active member of Canada’s Ocean Supercluster, the Canadian Ferry Association, and the Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate.
