More than 50% of the world’s hybrid and all-electric maritime vessels are equipped with a Corvus system. With the largest installed base of marine energy storage systems worldwide and over 10 million system operating hours, Corvus systems have helped to save 4.4 billion liters of diesel fuel and 10.9 billion kilograms of CO₂ emissions.

Hybrid/electric and all-electric ferries

Corvus Energy has provided battery energy storage systems for more than 150 all-electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid passenger, Ro-Pax, Ro-Ro, and high-speed ferries around the world, amassing extensive experience and know-how in the complex technology and lifecycle decision-making challenges facing ferry operators as they embark on the decarbonization of their fleets.

This year, the world`s largest battery-electric ship, a fully electric lightweight Ro-Pax ferry, will enter service powered by a Corvus Energy battery system. The groundbreaking ferry built by Incat Shipyard for Buequbus in Argentina is equipped with 40 MWh of energy storage. By far the largest battery system installed onboard a ship to date, it’s four times as big as the current largest installation.

The award-winning Corvus Orca ESS, the most installed marine ESS worldwide, offers high energy density and high-power delivery for versatility in a wide range of applications.
The energy dense Corvus Dolphin Energy NxtGen ESS is ideal for applications where lightweight is essential, including high-speed ferry, workboat and crew transfer vessels.
The Corvus Blue Whale NxtGen ESS is designed for use in medium to large vessels, including retrofits, with system sizes from 1MWh to 200+MWh.

Proud to serve the Canadian Ferry Market

Proudly Canadian, with product development and R&D teams based in Vancouver, Corvus Energy is pleased to support the fleet electrification needs of Canadian ferry operators. BC Ferries, BC Inland Ferries and Seaspan Ferries combined operate or have projects underway for 19 Ro-Ro or Ro-Pax ferries that use a Corvus battery system. In Toronto, the fully battery-powered Marilyn Bell passenger ferry to Billly Bishop airport has operated emissions-free using a Corvus battery since 2021, and the City of Toronto is currently producing two all-electric ferries that will use a Corvus Energy system.

An example of battery technology advancement, a Seaspan Ferries system upgrade quadrupled energy storage capacity onboard the Seaspan Reliant— the first vessel to deploy Corvus Energy’s multimegawatt-hour Blue Whale ESS.
