{"id":11309,"date":"2020-03-17T19:20:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-17T23:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianferry.ca\/?p=11309"},"modified":"2020-03-23T19:17:37","modified_gmt":"2020-03-23T23:17:37","slug":"covid-19-temporary-measures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianferry.ca\/fr\/covid-19-temporary-measures\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 Temporary Measures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In connection with the COVID-19\npandemic, Canadian health authorities have urged Canadians to engage in\nsocial-distancing in public areas to prevent further transmission of the virus\nacross communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In\nresponse, the federal government has announced that Minister Garneau has\napproved a temporary measure that will enable ferry passengers to stay inside\ntheir vehicle, onboard the car decks, provided the operator can demonstrate\nthat various safety measures have been put in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\ndecision to utilize this protocol ultimately rests with the Master of the\nFerry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Operators\nwho chose to implement this protocol will have to confirm, in writing, to the\nRegional Director of Marine Safety and Security what measures are being taken\nto handle the additional pressure for emergency evacuation in case of an\nincident. They may advise and comment on the information you provide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acceptable\nmeasures could include (but not be limited to):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Disallowing\nhigher risk vehicles to board at the same time (vehicles carrying dangerous\ngoods, recreational\/service vehicles with propane\/acetylene cylinders,\nrefrigerated trucks, etc.)<\/li><li>Implement\nspecial provisions for the mobility impaired.&nbsp;&nbsp;(i.e., they need to\nremain on the open deck or top deck)<\/li><li>Prohibit\nsmoking below deck<\/li><li>Limit\ncar carriage capacity per voyage and\/or implement additional distance\nrequirements between cars on closed decks (to allow for easier evacuation)<\/li><li>Ensure\ncontinuous watch on closed decks<\/li><li>Supply\nadditional crew to assist in evacuation<ul><li>Operators\nare to confirm in writing that they have sufficient staff to handle the\nadditional pressures that having passengers remain in their cars presents.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Operators\nwould also need to consider weather conditions (i.e. high winds\/turbulent seas\nmay warrant that passengers not be allowed to remain in their vehicles.)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If\nyou have any questions, please contact CFA CEO Serge Buy at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:sbuy@canadianferry.ca\">sbuy@canadianferry.ca<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, Canadian health authorities have urged Canadians to engage in social-distancing in public areas to prevent further transmission of the virus across communities.
