{"id":11186,"date":"2019-11-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-07T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/canadianferry.ca\/ferry-association-working-closely-with-federal-government-for-solutions-to-marine-labour-issues-statement\/"},"modified":"2020-03-02T16:33:55","modified_gmt":"2020-03-02T20:33:55","slug":"ferry-association-working-closely-with-federal-government-for-solutions-to-marine-labour-issues-statement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianferry.ca\/fr\/ferry-association-working-closely-with-federal-government-for-solutions-to-marine-labour-issues-statement\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferry Association Working Closely with Federal Government for Solutions to Marine Labour Issues: Statement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>November 7 \u2013 Ottawa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A lack of qualified seafarers is an issue that touches all corners of the marine sector \u2013 including passenger vessels across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Without qualified personnel, ferry vessels that are a vital part of the daily commute of many Canadians and provide connections to remote parts of the country, would not able to operate.<\/p>\n<p>The ferry industry is working closely with the federal government to find ways to attract more Canadians \u2013 including women and Indigenous people \u2013 to the marine sector.\u00a0 Our sector is also looking for ways to provide support for our current marine workforce to obtain additional certifications and support their progression.\u00a0 This includes considering modifications to the EI rules to accommodate training for current employees.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, we look forward to working with Transport Canada on amending the minimum safe manning requirements and the marine personnel regulations, both of which are crucial to the ferry industry\u2019s ability to staff the current fleet of vessels, as well as recruit and retain future workers.<\/p>\n<p>This lack of qualified personnel is a significant challenge, and the Canadian Ferry Association is focused on solutions.\u00a0 We believe that by industry stakeholders and government working together, we can develop and implement measures that will improve the marine sector as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to welcoming the workforce of tomorrow.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>\u00c0 propos de l'ACT<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Canadian Ferry Association is the national voice of ferries in Canada. \u00a0Our members operate with the highest professional and operational standards and promote the safe operation of ferry services in Canada.\u00a0 With over 53 million passengers, 21 million vehicles and billions of dollars of goods transported annually, the ferry sector is a crucial part of Canada\u2019s infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/canadianferry.ca\/fr\/\">www.canadianferry.ca<\/a>\u00a0for more information.
