{"id":11144,"date":"2016-03-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-23T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/canadianferry.ca\/new-canadian-regulations-published-potable-water-on-board-trains-vessels-aircraft-and-buses-regulations\/"},"modified":"2021-01-22T11:45:22","modified_gmt":"2021-01-22T16:45:22","slug":"new-canadian-regulations-published-potable-water-on-board-trains-vessels-aircraft-and-buses-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianferry.ca\/fr\/new-canadian-regulations-published-potable-water-on-board-trains-vessels-aircraft-and-buses-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"New Canadian Regulations Published: Potable Water on Board Trains, Vessels, Aircraft and Buses Regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">The Public Health Agency of Canada has\u00a0announces that the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><i>Potable Water on Board Trains, Vessels, Aircraft and Buses Regulations<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">\u00a0have been approved and are now published in the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><i>Canada Gazette<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">, Part II, available here: <\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gazette.gc.ca\/rp-pr\/p2\/2016\/2016-03-23\/html\/sor-dors43-eng.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hw-href=\"hd9aHcRBCoAgEAXQE81802jRbcTEWVgO44DQ6YPe4om7nsBai1t+q3vlVrhkmJIaNCKG7fijkCgmiN8dcxhdw+aeqD6NVfQD\" data-hw-target=\"hd8cAwA\">http:\/\/www.gazette.gc.ca\/rp-pr\/p2\/2016\/2016-03-23\/html\/sor-dors43-eng.php<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">. \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">This means that on September 23, 2016 the new regulations will come into force and replace the 1954 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><i>Potable Water Regulations for Common Carrier<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">s. \u00a0Your active and thoughtful engagement was instrumental in the development of these new regulations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">The new regulations modernise requirements for water served to passengers on board conveyances, including water intended for drinking, handwashing, oral hygiene and food preparation. \u00a0The new regulations will apply on board aircraft, as well as trains, vessels and buses with international or interprovincial itineraries operating in Canada. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Conveyance operators will need to meet specific requirements and take steps to ensure safety of water served to passengers through measures such as ensuring safe water supplies, maintaining potable water systems, taking action in cases of suspected or confirmed contamination, completing routine sampling and keeping related records. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">The modernised potable water regulations will be an integral component of the Agency\u2019s comprehensive approach to border and travel health, enhancing health protection for passengers during travel on board conveyances. The Agency's Travelling Public Program (TPP) will administer the new regulations. TPP Environmental Health Officers also administer and enforce the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><i>Quarantine Act<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">as well as food safety provisions of the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><i>Food and Drugs Act, <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">on behalf of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">We are committed to supporting all regulated parties in a smooth and successful transition to the new regulatory framework.
