It will make its\u00a0first sailing from Waterfront Station at 11 am on Monday! Regular fares apply.<\/p>\n<p>The Burrard Otter II replaces the original Otter and will share duties with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.translink.ca\/~\/media\/documents\/about_translink\/media\/2009\/20090724%20%20seabus%20backgrounder.ashx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Burrard Pacific Breeze<\/a>,\u00a0which made its <a title=\"Photos of the new SeaBus on its maiden voyage\" href=\"http:\/\/buzzer.translink.ca\/2010\/01\/photos-of-the-new-seabus-on-its-maiden-voyage\/\">maiden voyage<\/a> on 23\/12\/2009.<\/p>\n<p>The original Otter, which went into service nearly forty years ago when SeaBus operations began, will head off into retirement once the other SeaBus \u2013 the Burrard Beaver \u2013 is retrofitted to be\u00a0used as a spare vessel.<\/p>\n<p>The updated design of the Burrard Otter II makes the vessel more efficient and easier on the environment. The new SeaBus uses less fuel and produces 20 per cent less carbon dioxide than older vessels. The Burrard Otter II also surpasses marine standards and reduces carbon monoxide emissions by 90 per cent, hydro carbons by 70 per cent and visual smoke by 25 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The Burrard Otter II cost approximately $21 million to build, of which $19 million was provided by the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Government of Canada<\/a> through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.infrastructure.gc.ca\/plan\/gtf-fte-eng.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gas Tax Fund<\/a>allocated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubcm.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Union of BC Municipalities<\/a>. TransLink contributed the remaining $2 million.<\/p>\n<p>SeaBus has provided safe, reliable and efficient service between downtown Vancouver and the North Shore since 1977.
