CFOA Participates in Parliamentary Study about Infrastructure in Canada

June 18, 2015

Today, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities released a report entitled "Updating Infrastructure in Canada: An Examination of Needs and Investments."

CFA submitted a brief to the Committee outlining the needs for further investment in ferries and ferry infrastructure.  Our recommendations included:

  • Amend the criteria of the New Building Canada Plan to allow all ferry transportation infrastructure to be eligible for funding.
  • Eliminate the tariff on ferries shorter than 129 metres; or provide a temporary moratorium on the tariff until such time as the domestic shipbuilding industry is able to meet the needs of the ferry sector.

Our opinions were taken into consideration, and are noted in the Committee's Report, available here.
